[sg_popup id=”2" event=”onload”][/[/sg_popup]al Madrid won the FIFA Club World Cup beating Gremio 1-0 this Saturday night. The Whites have now become the first ever side to successfully defend the Club World Cup title thanks to a sublime free kick from Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is now the tournament’s top scorer with 7 goals to his credit.
During the build up, Renato Gaucho, Gremio coach had said that he was a better player than Ronaldo and he had better technique.
“Today’s generation mostly looks to Cristiano Ronaldo. That generation didn’t see me play. Talk to the older generations, the ones who saw me play, and you can be sure that they will have a different opinion.”
“Ronaldo works hard on his strength but he doesn’t have much technique.”
“You just have to watch him for Real Madrid, the moments when he leaves the left wing, he produces almost nothing. I was more versatile, since I could play on the right wing, in the centre, or on the left.”
However, these words by the Gremio Coach came back to haunt him as Ronaldo’s amazing free kick proved to be decisive in the Club World Cup Final handing Real Madrid their third title.
Cristiano Ronaldo talked to the media after the game and he was asked about Renato Gaucho’s comments about him.
The Portuguese replied:
“I’ll tell you, my numbers speak for themselves. I always answer my critics on the pitch and I’m very happy.”
Ronaldo also revealed that he felt a bit of discomfort in the second half but assured that he will be ready for next weekend’s El Clasico.
