BARCELONA and Real Madrid are set to go head-to-head to sign Valencia wonderkid Ferran Torres, according to reports in Spain.
Ferran Torres has been turning heads in Spain since being handed his La Liga debut by Valencia this season.
The 17-year-old winger featured in the 2-1 defeat to Eibar last month and has maintained his place in the first team, regularly being named on the bench.
His talents have not gone unnoticed and Barcelona and Real Madrid are said to be running the rule over the youngster who has been likened to Marco Asensio.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the La Liga giants are prepared to go head-to-head for his signature.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is said to be leading a huge recruitment drive for younger players.
He is said to be concerned by the lack of talent coming from the revered La Masia academy which seems to have dried up in recent years.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are reportedly keen to sign Torres as a long-term replacement for Gareth Bale.
Don Balon claim Florentino Perez fully expects the Welshman to leave the Bernabeu and is already paving the way for a successor.
Valencia are said to be aware of the interest from their La Liga rivals and have put in place precautions to keep Torres.
The Spanish side are said to have increased his release clause from a meagre £7million to £22m in an attempt to keep him.
And his contract has been extended, keeping him at the Mestalla Stadium until June 2020.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have also been linked with Torres in the past and reportedly sent scouts to watch him last season.
