MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly shelved plans to sign Mesut Ozil or Malcolm because they are ready to spend big on Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann in the summer.
Manchester United have been linked with Arsenal and Bordeaux players Ozil and Malcolm this January.
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is determined to sign a No10 and a winger at the earliest opportunity as he aims to reel Manchester City in at the Premier League summit.
But the Manchester Evening News say Manchester United have now shelved plans to sign the duo this January.
And that is because, with £150million to spend, the club would rather pursue deals for Real Madrid’s Bale and Atletico’s Griezmann.
Both players have long been on Mourinho’s radar.
A deal for Griezmann looked done and dusted before Atletico’s transfer ban scuppered a deal.
Bale, meanwhile, was the subject of unsuccessful bids back in 2007 and 2013.
Yet the MEN say Mourinho, armed with a £150million budget for the summer, is hopeful of enticing both players to Old Trafford.
However, while that may mean missing out Malcolm, a move for Ozil may merely be postponed.
The Germany international’s contract at Arsenal expires in the summer and a renewal is looking increasingly unlikely.
Reports have claimed United could be ready to chance their arm by offering Arsenal £30million for the player this month.
However, United are hopeful Ozil will join in the summer on a free transfer – thus meaning they can spend their budget on other areas of the squad.
As well as Griezmann and Bale, United are also being linked with Monaco duo Fabinho and Thomas Lemar, as well as PSG’s Lucas Moura.
